A Saree is a female garment in the Indian Subcontinent.A saree is a strip of unstitched/stitched cloth that is draped over the body in various styles. The most common style is for the saree to be wrapped around the waist, with one end then draped over the shoulder baring the midriff. The saree was born in both South and North India and is now a symbol for all of India. Sarees are woven with one plain end (the end that is concealed inside the wrap) , two long decorative borders running the length of the saree, and a one to three foot section at the other end which continues and elaborates the length-wise decoration. This end is called the pallu.
Silk sarees must be handled with care. Don’t wash the silk sarees with ordinary powder , it should be “ Dry Clean " only for better life of cloth .Silk sarees may get yellow and fade with the use of a high iron setting. Press cloths and a steam iron are recommended. Silk saree is also weakened by sunlight and perspiration.
Designer sarees are decorated withblock printing using carved wooden blocks and vegetable dyes, or tie-dyeing, known in India as bhandani work. Sometimes the saris were further decorated, after weaving, with various sorts of embroidery. Resham work is embroidery done with colored silk thread.
The silk sarees of India are among the living examples of the excellent craftsmanship of the weavers of the country. Their mastery lies in the creation of floral designs, beautiful textures, fine geometry, durability of such work and not the least, the vibrant colours they choose for making sarees. Many states in the country have their own variety of makes in silk as well as weaving centres with their traditional designs, weaving and quality. The silk varieties are renowned by the place where it has been woven.
